I'm looking for an optical gear indicator which is compatible with my Shimano Tiagra 4400 STI levers.

I know that the flightdeck is compatible but I don't want another computer on my bike since I already use a Garmin Edge 705 with a cadence sensor.

Has anyone got any ideas/thoughts what I can use? I have seen an indicator which splices in to the cable but I have only seen these on ebay in American shops. Has anyone had any experience of these?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Cheers.

I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • YGM?

Yackers, the new Tiagra levers have an indicator built in. - expensive option I guess.
I'm not entirely convinced of the need for them, haven't got them on my other bikes and don't really miss them. You soon realise you've run out of gears when the levers don't move.

Stuck on a Giant - It appears that the Tiagra 4500 (the newer ones) have them and they do appear to be an expensive option.

Since I am still new to this road cycling stuff I think I'll stick with what I have since when I do start upgrading my bike I'm going to start with items that are going to make a big difference, such as wheels, before changing gear shifters.
  • Sounds sensible to me, you'll soon get used to not having them.
