Arrghh: Orange 5 swing arm + gear cable nightmare

I was replacing the gear cable on my orange 5. Carefully left the cable in so i could thread the new outer through the swing arm on it. Somehow it went horribly wrong. Now there's nothing in there but mud.

How do you thread the cable outer through the swing arm?

Its a nightmare! Any ideas would be gratefully received as I'm pulling my hair out.

Suck a leader through with a vacum cleaner.
  • Are you saying your swingarm is full of mud, which is stopping you threading a new outer cable through?
If so I suggest, a high pressure house into the swingarm to clear the mud. I would think removing the gromet and sliding it further up the outer cable would help matters?

It's amazing how the greatest ideas can turn out to be a pain in the censored !
  • patience is the key, and positioning the frame in the vertical axis to make the cable drop through easier. admit it is a pain but not a job you need to do to often.

Try a straightened wire coat hanger gaffer taped to outer cable, that might help you get the outer back through.
