Good man! I didn't know about it, but have now booked it in.

Now to get the Chinky menus out and decide what nibbles I'll have while watching it.

    Cheers.

Why racist? There's no I'll intent or unreasoned, unbridled hatred here. On the contrary, I like the orientals - and their grub - and have an interest in their history and culture (as I have for many others). China and the far east are places I'd love to tour and, at one point I considered working out there. If anything, I'm using the expression as a term of endearment.

For it to be racist it'd have to have a context that you don't have, but thanks for pigeon-holing me anyway.

I think he meant the term "chinky". Not exactly politically correct is it

I know what he meant! Using a word doesn't make one racist - it requires context that isn't there! Whether it's politically correct or not, it does not equal racism - an accusation that I strongly resent!

Brilliant Rob, thankyou ever so much!

I think I saw this about 15 years ago, but remember it being a longer programme, more like 2 hours.

Is this the one where they ride for like 2000 miles, and sleep occasionally, for only a few hours at a time?

Anyone else rememebr the original programme I am talking about, reckon it was around 1990's, early or mid - pretty sure it was C4 back then.

Have set a reminder for Saturday.

    Thanks again

I remember a programme about this a while ago, where the RAF team were testing a civvy to join them. Fascinating it was.
Great race, must be mad to do it though.

I think I saw the last half of that. Was it some bloke who had a habit of falling off? And he was a singer in a band or something..?

Can't quite remember the full details but the gut considered himself mega fit for a keen cyclist.
But I do remember them testing the guy on the road in america and him coming in feeling that he'd done really well to keep with the group but them being dismissive as as far as they were concerned it was a low level session and he barely hung on to them.
Does anyone know if the RAF still have a cycling team? These guys were effectively pro racers as all they did was biking whilst in the RAF.

    Crapaud,

    From the Cambridge Dictionary online:

    Chinky -
"an offensive word for a restaurant serving Chinese food"

    Chink -
"noun [C] (UK ALSO Chinky) OFFENSIVE
    a Chinese person"

You may not be a racist, but it is generally classed as an offensive word. My Father in Law is Chinese, and I wouldn't use the word to describe him. Or am I being over-sensitive?

And sorry for hijacking the post a lttle bit!
