Silly gear changing question..

Now I know this IS a silly question, but its best to ask and look silly here than to do myself in on the road and look even sillier.
Now I've just picked up a nearly new Specialised Allez, and coming from MTB'ing this whole road bike thing is a little alien. I'm used to SRAM triggers, so I'm confusiong myself with the whole gear levers as brake handles thing...
Which lever changes up and which changes down?

another answer would simply be to get on the bike and find out the fun way! If you dont want to do it riding, you could just push a few switches to find out whether it tightens or slackens cable? (Of course if you do this, you make sure you dont overtighten any cables and damage your gears!)0
