Bottom Bracket Question

About a month ago I had my rat bike fitted with a new BB by my local lbs, everything was fine I thought till Ithe gears were playing up a bit so took it back and they found nothing wrong so I decided to take it fro a second opinion at our other lbs.

After adjusting the gears he found that when its on the small cog (at front) and large cog (at back) I cant use the 2 top gears because the middle mech has got no more room to move which he told me was because they had fitted a slightly smaller BB.

Should they not have knew this when they fiited the BB because they adjusted my gears at the same time.

The bike at the minute minus these 2 gears is running good (after the other lbs sorted things) so my question is -

Should I just get on with things the way they are OR should I take it back for them to replace the BB for the right one. (if they knew when they fitted the first one that 2 gears dont work who knows what they will do this time).

BB fitted cost £20.

Cheers.

Hi, the top 2 are useable but scrape badly against the middle mech as there is not enough room for the middle mech to move over.

Hope this explains it for you.

I'd go back to the shop and want to see some brief. If they don't have someone with a cytech certificate or similar they can't assure the work.

Same as if worked on our car engine, I'm a maine diesel engineer not a car mechanic so i can repair boats not cars. Just the same as bob off the street isn't a bike mechanic.

Just took it back to the shop and he said its because its bog standard equipment on my bike that it wont access the top 2 gears because if he fitted a longer BB it would not shift onto the large front cog.

He then proceeded to bend the middle mech to stop it rubbing on the chain.

Was made to feel a right twat so wont use them anymore, he also slated the other bike shop as not knowing fu*k all.

    Cheers anyway.
