Just having a quick shufty at the old OS map (always a good investment, GET ONE!!!) there's surprisingly little in the immediate Brighouse area. Try having a look around Dam Head/Northowram/Pule Hill areas. There's some not too challenging riding in the Ogden/Causeway Foot areas too.
Or if you can travel to Hebden Bridge there's absolutely loads of stuff round there.
Have a look at this thread too.
If you can PM me your e-mail address, I'll send you some PDF maps of fairly easy routes in the Calderdale area.0 -

Do you mean Stainburn? It's about 25 miles away from where this guy is, plus it's not really beginners country.0 -
I'd stay away from Stainburn till you are more experienced, its a great place but not for a beginner, its way dangerous if you're not careful.
The other week I rode from Hebden Bridge right the way through to Dewsbury, its relatively easy-going canal riding but good if you want to just get out on the bike and spend some time in the saddle getting used to riding again.
Dave H - Wheres the stuff in Hebden Bridge? Is it foresty or trailsy over fields etc..?0 -
I rode Wharncliffe and Shipley but that was over 7 years ago so am looking for fairly gentle stuff.
Thanks for the responses, sent you a PM Dave.0 -
I ride shipley/baildon at least once a week on an evening. Give me a shout if you want any info.0

Looks like I'm dragging an old thread up here, but I've been looking for local routes for a while and haven't come across many so thought i'd share this.
It's by far my favourite, and last week I saw a baby deer, a real life bambi! Really made my day.
Before finding this I was mainly working through a local MTB guide book of which the name escapes me.
I've not spent long drawing it out but it looks best with google's sattelite view zoomed in.
I'm still quite new to riding, and by no means have the bike i would like, but it's solid, and works, and is in better shape than me lol. I'd love to see what someone with more confidence/skill could do around this ride.
If anyone wants more details or even fancies meeting up while we're blessed with the weather PM me.
