Oh man, where to start with that interview!

    1. Pozzato is a dickhead
    2. Wimbledon is full of dopers
    3. Cycling is the cleanest sport around

Perhaps they could put the expensively coiffured Pozzato and the pube-permed Cavendish into a team bus and let them flap at each other with their man-bags.

This is the mark of a cranky sprinter ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzTZV0TYG-U ) , not the current Vauxhall Conference level of name calling.

I love Cavs outbursts - the complete antithesis to most of todays media manicured sportsmen.

  • Stating that pozzato is a d@ckhead is like saying that stalin wasn't really all that nice. His treatment of Simeoni remains a stain on the sport. He is a d@ckhead, an utter utter scumbag, and probably a cheat.

I seem to remember Cav holding onto a car in the TO Cali? No? But we'll let him have that... His honesty is refreshing but i can se how he'd p*ss people off.... just hope neither him or Wiggo get injured at the Tour!

Pozzato was basically one of a large group of riders that verbally harassed and bullied Simeoni on the day Lance chased him down out of the breakaway and told him to get back in the bunch.

Yes, but he was DQed that day after getting back and winning the sprint.

Coriander, when Simeoni agreed to testify in an Italian court case, which involved stating that his coach at the time, a certain Dr Ferrari, supplied him with EPO.

Because of this, many riders in the bunch got annoyed, for they too were employing Dr Ferrari as their coach. Lance Armstrong included.

At one point during the Tour de France, during one of the final stages, Simeoni was in a breakaway with several riders and Armstrong found out and took it upon himself to solo across to the break and threaten Simeoni. To see the Yellow Jersey do this was unusual to say the least and Armstrong's presence in the breakaway condemned the move, so all Simeoni could do was sit up and let the others race on, as he and Armstrong waited for the bunch. Armstrong's move was designed solely to stop a humble domestique from winning a stage, it was petty, vindictive and bullying.

Simeoni claimed Armstrong said something like "I've got a lot more time and a lot more money than you, I will destroy you" because the Italian rider was testifying against his coach. Armstrong denies this.

Because Simeoni took a stand on doping, he became a pariah in the bunch and several riders, including Pozzato, took to spitting on him when he reached the bunch and to this day, he gets abuse from many riders.

So for me, Pozzato may have a smooth pedalling style and a sleek haircut but that's where the clever looks end, underneath the hair gel you can see what type of man he is.

This is the incident. Armstrong basically pointing out that because he didn't like him, Simeoni had no chance of being able to have his moment in the sun.

Probably the most unedifying moment in the sport's recent history. All the people who believe Armstrong to be some kind of living saint should ask themselves what his motivation was on that sorry day.

    Nice.

Who the hell actually spits at another person? So Simeoni must have been doubly delighted at the weekend.

I always had Lance Armstrong down as a hideous person. And that's without even questioning his integrity. And don't get me started on the behaviour of an Italian who's had his toy taken away.

Armstrong is a weapons-grade c0ck but this isn't exactly Joe Stalin mugging Mother Teresa - more like the Krays doing in Jack McVitie. Simeoni, on his own admission, spent much of the '90s using HGH and EPO. Fingering Armstrongs "coach" in court was only ever going to lead to one thing:- If Lance was clean  Simeonis actions would damage Armstrongs reputation by association. If Lance wasn't clean, Simeoni could upset the apple cart. Either way, LA stood to suffer significant image and financial damage, and being the sort of guy he is, he put the boot in. Unedifying? Certainly but unfortunately, he was neither the first nor the last patron to abuse his position in the peleton.

If it wasn't for the actions of LA on that day, we'd be more likely to treat Simeonis win at the week-end in the same fashion as we'd treat Tyler Hamilton winning the US championships.

Pozatto's response at the time was inexcusable though.

Tha fact that simeoni ended up covered in gob is the clincher. Pozzato is, and I reserve this word for very special occasions, a c**t.

OK, I don't want to get in the way of any Pozzato bashing, because the man is clearly a cock - but I thought it was a US Postal rider who spat on Simeoni, and Pozzato, Guerini and Andrea Peron were disciplined by the Italian federation merely for giving him some verbal. They can't all have gobbed on him.
  • He was apparently covered in spittle. Pozzato was one of his chief tormenters. I don't know whether he actually spat on simeoni, but he was certainly part of the whole appalling episode. If I was prudhomme I would have refused him entry to the tour. In perpetuity.

Slightly OT, but does anyone remember the occassion when Tafi got into an argument with Pantani (in the Giro I think) and ended up off the back of the Gruppo in tears?

Class act Taffi (even won Lombardy solo, which ain't bad for a big guy). I still regret not buying an "io Tiffo Taffi" T shirt on hoilday once. Without a doubt Pozatto is a "stronza".
