Does anyone own one of these and can give me some quick feedback in terms of good/bad points? (II'm cosidering either an Epic of Tref Fuel Ex9)

I mostly do forestry roads and ride at centres like Coed y Brenin, Penmachno and Betws y Coed.

thanks

Well I have just asked my LBS to get an Epic Expert in so i can view/test it. I will get 10% off and some free goodies thrown in (if I take it), including a change of seat as i don't want a white one.

Hopefully pick it up on Friday ready for Builth Merida (weather dependent) on Sunday.

I tested a carbon epic s-works last week for a couple of hours on fire roads in the forest of dean, and it was great. best bike i had tried to date. if i could get my hands on 4 grand, i would have had it. very light and easy to use in all areas.
    i would recommend one. :D

Can't wait to test ride this now!!

I'm not sure I'll ever spend £4k on a bikethough. £2k is more than enough for what I want.

I've got a 2007 Specialized Epic. For what I use it for, mainly fairly tame XC, it's perfect. To be honest, I could easily get away with a hardtail, but I like the comfort of the rear suspension on longer rides.

Oh, and this is my second Epic.

I bought an Epic Comp earlier this year, having upgraded from a Hardrock.

I love the bike, its light, the brakes and gears are great and the suspension is very adjustable.

I have fitted road tyres to mine at the moment, as Im mainly using it for this purpose at present. Its a good Hybrid as you can lock out the suspension.

Did a 50 mile charity ride a few weeks ago and with road tyres its quite fast.

Great bike for multi purpose use.

Two friends of mine have s works epics and from what i have seen they are fast climbers, quite agile but anything fast and downhill they start to lose out to other bikes.

An excellent bike when used for it's intended purpose, fast xc, their brain shock also has me rather intrigued it looks quite effective.

As others have said you will love it. :)
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Well I got the Epic Epxert and am well impressed with it.

m0scs: what kind of pressure do you run in the rear shock compared to your weight. I weigh 175lbs but have to put in around 195psi into the shock. The manual recommends 100psi.

    i vote epic
go for your lbs and ask for a test bike so you can try them out
i have to say the brain rear shox(newer specialized own brand one) is way better than any rear shox and when ridden on it just feel like the rear shox is way better than the front(fox rlc at front)
just test it out and you ll understand what i mean

I run my rear shock on almost locked out position, just one notch back on the brain fade for a very slight amount of give.

I have my rear shock pumped to about 150 from memory but its not really being used as im near lock out anyway for road use. At the moment Im not using the bike off road at all.

Glad to hear others are pleased with their Epic's,

I've got last years Epic Comp and love it. I used it as road bike all through the winter and it's been great, although I have bought a road bike now. I'll probably go back to the Epic as my winter hack. I can't fault it, and they're a decent price.

How do you find your Road bike after the Epic. Whilst I love the Epic as a general allrounder I think I should have got myself a roadbike in hindsight as its what im mainly doing at the moment.

Is the road bike a lot faster than the epic?

    Cheers

I wouldn't say lots faster, but I can cycle further without tiring out as much, and hills are much, much easier. I think you'll get faster on a road bike quicker than on an mtb. Bear in mind I also still had full knobbly tyres, which make a huge difference.
