Hi,

Is all OK with Bike Events? - Their website seems to have disappeared just as I want to book my place on the Wessex 100...

Cheers.

That's odd, I was only looking at the site the other day. Maybe the server has crashed or there's another technical issue.

I was hoping to do the London to Oxford ride on Sunday 6th July, I hope the site's back before then!

    Cheers,

    Andy

Seems to be OK in the flesh - I did the peaks challenge with them yesterday

The site is working now, they may have had IP registration problems.

I'd be very cautious of any events that Bike Events put on. I've always thought they were cowboys and the feedback I got from the Demand charity people after the 100k and 50k event in Skipton last Saturday has only confirmed that for me. The charity were very disappointed in the "organisation" and reckon they were ripped off. apparently, the entire £15 entry fee all goes to Bike Events, who sell the event on the back of the charity yet give nothing to the charity themselves; additional donations have to come from riders raising their own money!

As to the Demand 100 and 50 on Saturday, I have yet to see a worse organised event in more than 25 years of competitive sports than that shower provided. Surly, grumpy people (I won't call them marshalls) sat on walls facing the wrong way, away from the direction the riders were travelling (!) and giving wrong directions! A group of women supporters came to cheer the riders at one point to be told by the "marshall" there that the last rider had passed and she was upping sticks and leaving. This was a lie as only about a dozen of the riders could possibly have passed her by that stage.

It's not as if you get anything for the event and you are putting money directly into the pockets of these cowboys. There's no timings, no chips or electronic tags, no food en route, very poor directions, bad marshalling and all in all, a feeling of depression when finishing. In my opinion, you're better off looking for alternatives to this company.

That's interesting as I've ridden a number of their events before, both semi-seriously (Oxford-Cambridge, Wessex 100) and with the kids (New Forest) and always found them to be friendly, well organised events.

I don't understand the gripe about the lack of official timings/ chips/ transponders - These rides aren't races or sportives, they're recreational/ charity rides.

Let's hope yours was a one-off lapse. It'll be a shame if they've let standards drop this year.
