Steel/alloy frames for the track?

Hello all,
I've enjoyed a couple of track meets on a borrowed bike. So my thoughts have turned to getting my own. The bike I am using is a simple alloy job with alloy forks, and I like it a lot. So I was thinking of something similar, or a British lugged steel frame which I would get on my next trip home.
I don't know that much about this, so I wanted to hear what experienced trackies use and recommend, and who builds a nice frame.
Thanks!

I’ve had a really great time with my Dolan Track Champ for the best part of 3 years and have only very recently ‘upgraded’ my main race bike to a carbon Dolan DF3. The Track Champ will stay as my training bike – I’m quite attached to it!
With aluminium track frames, there is quite large choice so, as ever, depends on your budget.
I’m not sure that there is much ‘off-the-self” choice for British lugged steel track frames these days – I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong. Mercian still makes its Super Vigorelli. Other then that, I think it’s a case of speaking to custom builders such as Chas Roberts or maybe Brian Rourke if steel is what you want.I’m a sprinter – I warmed up yesterday.0 -
The Mercian Super Vigorelli is a really nice frame.Hipster Nascar: A Blog About Track Cycling - http://www.hipsternascar.com.0

Thanks for tips so far. It does not have to be off the peg. In fact, I would almost prefer it not to be; I've always wanted a frame made for me.
Have to agree that the Mercian is very appealing.. the Professional (track version) is very pretty too.0
