Chain length

Just a quick question about chain length on a road bike

I've just brought a boardman comp. It set up with a compact chainset, a 12-27 rear cassette and a 105 mech

On my mountain bikes I run the chain round the big chain ring and biggest gear o the cassette, and add a link

Is it the same on a road bike with this set up?
