Grease & Loctite - Any Tips?

Hi, trying to remove creaks and give my bike a once over before the Etape. I've purchased some Finish Line Teflon Grease and some Loctite Lock and Seal. Are these the correct products?

Also, any tips of what to apply where and the best way to do it?

I'm thinking grease on the seat post (apply to the inside of the frame or the post? below the clamp?). Loctite on all screws? Headset, seat, seatpost, stem, pedals?

Should I grease the bottom bracket? Shimano HT2.
Should I grease contact points (stem to handlebars etc?) or will this cause them to slip?

Thanks

I wouldn't put Loctite on the pedals - the makers recommend grease on these threads. One thing you should use threadlock on are the bottle-cage screws - particularly if you have a cage-mounted pump bracket.

I have used a smear of Loctite on the contact surfaces of bars / stem to stop squeaking and it worked. However thats a statement and not necessarily a recommendation!

The only recommendation I can make on how to do it is to ensure that the threads are clean and don't go mad with the stuff. A drop of Loctite is sufficient on most threads - you don't have to flood the place with it.

    Loctite Lock and Seal

i will say nothing about this as it is not one product.

you want to use 243 in liquid form or try the new stick type 248.

It was the 243 version I have. In the end I've only used it for the bottle cages and attaching the seat to the post.

The grease seems to have done the job. Loads on the seat post and small amounts on pedal and stem bolts.

Any problems putting grease between where the stem and handlebars attach? Would it make them slip?

    thanks

I have never felt the need myself but many recommend that you do grease there. It should not cause slipping as long as the stem bolts are tightened properly. Only situation where you would definately NOT grease would be with carbon bars or stem (never grease carbon anything.)
