I am looking to buy some shoes for flat pedals. What would you guys recomend? Do I need mtb specific shoes or will skateboard ones do? What does everyone use? Anyone bought a pair recently and know of a good deal?

You can use skate shoes, but look for one with a stiff sole, it makes pedalling easier. I believe that Etnies and Lakais are quite stiff. I have a pair of dirt-cheap Airwalk skate shoes for flat pedals (£12) and they're great, plus they're cheap enough to wreck. I'm thinking I might get them resoled with the same stuff as Five-Tens.

If you want a dedicated cycling skate-style shoe with an in-built sole shank, look at 661, Five-Ten, Shimano and I believe that Nike have started doing one (Air Whistler I think).
