2008 Bianchi B4P 1885 Hydro/Carbon - frame weight?
I'm soon to be in the market for a new road bike. I love the look and componentry on the £1k veloce model, and I think the geometry will suit me. Apparently the full bike weighs in at 8.98kg in the 55cm size which is on the heavy side (though not compared to my current bike!).Whilst fit is going to be my main concern I'm curious to know what the frame (and to a lesser extent the forks) weigh to guage future upgrade potential. As with 11 speed just around the corner there may be some deals on nicer 10 speed gear.
Any idea? Or know how I can find out?
Any opinions on/experience of the bike itself welcome too.

Hi Ive also been looking at bikes at this price recently and ive settled with a Focus Cayo which weighs in at 8.05 Kg for the 56cm and the frame is aprrox 1.2 Kg so that would proberly mean the Bianchi 1885 frame weight is approx 1350 g ish, But there is alot of choice at this price point, if the wife would of let me have £400 more I would of liked the Bianchi 928 C2C Carbon veloce althought the components on the Focus Cayo are better and it had raving reviews all over.0

Yeh I've looked at the Cayo and it seems like a bargain. I definitely want to test ride though so it's pretty much off the list.
I'm pretty open about what I want but the allure of the Bianchi is strong. It also has Campag, which I prefer, and one of the shorter toptubes which should suit me. The main downside is that it's heavier than most bikes at that price, though it will no doubt seem light compared to my current >10kg beast! It would be nice to know a definite weight on the frame and forks to see how much weight reduction potential there is. 1350g is not bad if you're right.
No doubt a test ride will help me make up my mind, I'll happily take a weight hit if the geometry suits me perfectly.0 -
Yeah I agree Campag on the Bianchi is better and im taking a risk buying off the internet but Ive purchased a Focus commuter bike before which im happy with. The frame weight of the Bianchi i mentioned was aprrox comparing to the Cayo's overall weight and frame weight which is stated on Wiggle, and at the end of the day weight isnt everything I chose the Cayo because its light, stiff, and good has components and ill use it for some sportives, TT's and may be some Cat 4 racing next summer.
If the geometry works for you that will make it more efficent anyway and its a nice looking bike check out this link http://www.epic-cycles.co.uk/bianchi.html the celeste looks good.[/img]0 -
I had a 53cm 1885 a few years back and yes it weighed about 1350 grams if I recall correctly. The forks were a bit heavier than they could have been too. Geometry/size was spot on though. In the end I gradually upgraded most bits on mine and got it to about 8kg. They could well have got lighter since then.
Edit: It rode well though and I blame/thank it for giving me the road cycling bug in way that my old Trek never did.0 -

I love my Bianchi 928 C2C Carbon veloce, it does feel light although as I don't it's not something that worries me.
As a present I also got a Bianchi carbon crank set, dirt cheap, (search the beginner forum for a link) which also took a load of weight off and was easy to fit. But once again as I haven't even equalled that weight loss, it's only there for the 'bling' factor.0 -
Cheers all. 1350g is pretty respectable really.
Looking forward to a test ride0 -
Hey Guys.
I am reading your posts with much interest, as I am tossing up between a Bianchi 1885 & Focus Cayo.
Both brand new, €1200 (in Belgium), both 2008 models, both full Ultegra, the 1885 has Mavic Aksium wheels & the Cayo has Fulcram 5. The cayo has been fitted with Ritchy WCS handlebars, stem & seat post.
I rode both bikes & the Cayo seemed a slightly nicer ride. The Cayo is a tad lighter also. Bianchi has a better name, but the Cayo has great reviews & the allure of the full carbon frame is hard to beat.
Any opinions??0
