Bottom Bracket Mystery
A colleague has asked my advice on removing his cranks so that the BB can be replaced. Unfortunately, he lives a million miles (in the opposite direction from me) from work, so I'm unlikely to be able to see the bike in the flesh. So he's posted these pictures:

To me it looks like a conventional square tapered job, with the bolts taken off. But he says that's how he found it when he took the dustcaps off (for the 1st time) so it would've had to've left the factory like that.
Is that possible? Or is it not as I think it looks?

There's a bolt in it in the last pic...
What's the possibility he's confusing bolts with dustcaps?0 -
a clubmate was using his bike with no bolts in the cranks, mind you it was several years old and badly neglected.
shouldn't have got past qc in a factory though, just in case it does come off.0 -
You're right BR, it probably is a bolt now I look more closely - I mean it's even got torque settings on it by the look. In my defence, I was only looking over someone's shoulder when I first saw it ! I'll have to have another word with 'im. Many thanks to you both for your posts.0
