first thoughts on the aero road bikes. Felt AR1 and cervelo

Cervelo came out with the soloist. Now Felt have the AR1. Is this the way foward? Or has Giant got the right idea with their super fat tubes in their 2009 lineup?
I'll be buying a new bike next year and don't want to be buying a duffer of a concept!

Hi there.

As a marketing concept it's unbeatable. All you have to do is produce an aero-looking bike, some unrepeatable 'independent' wind tunnel tests that turn out to be so marginal that no-one can really refute your claims and you're on to a winner.

For as long as I can remember bike weight has been the main marketing point, but anyone with a set of scales can measure that. Wind tunnels are a bit trickier.

flyingelephant - buy whatever bike you'd be happy riding, concept or no.
