Should These Bolts Be Tight.
Ok, I've been having a real bad time setting up my front mech, now, i'm not a pro mechanic, you could say i'm a novice, but i'm 100% not a complete and utter dimwit, so after a number of trips back to my LBS (It's New Bike) and hours of trying myself it was still not working correctly.
For something to be this difficult to set up i began looking for other problems, thats when i came across these two bolts (see pic), Now, as far as i can see the mech pivots on these two bolts, yet they were done up real tight, i've now loosend them off and hey presto front mech set up within 5mins, anyway, should these bolts be tight and by loosenig them off have i bodged the problem. Cheers.

As you said, they look like pivot bolts so they should be tight enough to stay done up and still let the mech move freely. A good way to test the free movement of the mech is to pull the cable away from under the down tube, this gives a good feel for how the mech moves. He is not the messiah, he is a very naughty boy !!0
