Newbie requires tyres - your opinions please
Hi all,
I have recently taken delivery of my Trek 1200 (first ever racing bike) and am chuffed with it Problem is................. riding on Norfolk's cruddy road have created a major tyre deflation within a week.
I am looking at re-inforced tyres and after research it appears that the Continental GP 4 seasons and Krylion carbons are the best choices.
The questions to the panel are .......
1) Which should I go for? Are the GP 4 seasons worth the extra?
2) Are they easy to fit on the standard Alexis rims on the Trek 1200 (I had great fun and games removing my existing tyres!!)? I will be using 700x25c and a 700x20c inner tube (suggested by a friend)
3) Any other recommendations? - I have heard of the Armadillos but concerned that the ride is harsh, and I have attempted research on Slime and slime inner tubes but nobody seems to rave about them!
Sorry to ask such a stupid question and many thanks for your advice/opinions

If you can get your hands on them Krylion Carbons would be my choice. I had a virtually fault free winter on them and, if I swap the front and rear around, I think I may get another out of them.
I think one of the last known people to have them in stock was All Terrain Cycles. Might be worth giving them a call of firing off an email to check stock though.
My Allez came with Alex AT400 rims. I only use them on the turbo (or as spare wheel to get me home now I've lost a wheelset to Campag) but of my four wheelsets I've found them they're easiest rims to mount tyres on.0 -
gp 4 seasons are an utter pile of poo-feel like wood and poor punture resistane
go for krylion if you can theyre tyre aceness!'dont forget lads, one evertonian is worth twenty kopites'0 -

Looks like the Krylions have it, if I can get hold of any that is.
Thanks for all the replies - what about fitting them? Am I going to be stuffed if the worst comes to the worst and I have to change an inner on the side of the road?0 -
i got 700 x 23 on campag rims no bother- and campag are the tightest fit usually'dont forget lads, one evertonian is worth twenty kopites'0

I had a bit of a pain fitting them to my Aksiums first time around but since they've come off and gone back on okay. I still need tyre levers for them mind but then I'm just weak. :oops:0

Went 70 km/h under a raining storm this week, no problem at all, it's not the tire, it's the driver that matters...0
