105 Compact/triple swap

I have a Condor Fratello, delivered September 2008, equipped with 105 10 speed, 12-27 cassette, R700 compact (50/34) crankset. Rear derailleur seems to have a medium length cage.
I am a southern softie (e.g I need 34/27 to get up the short steep hill from Kingston gate in Richmond Park going anti-clockwise), knowing which a sadistic Yorkshire mate has invited me to ride the hills around Jackson Bridge/Holmfirth in a couple of months. I think I will need a triple (and maybe an engine) but my question is, can I do a straight swap of the crankset or will I need to change other bits as well.
Also, any suggestions for least challenging routes would be greatly appreciated so I have strong grounds when I chew his head off for taking me up another mountainside.
Thanks for any help

Congratulations on the time machine
sorry can't help with compatibility but here are some details on the R700

I believe that then 105 STi levers are both double and triple compatible so you don;t need to replace them.
It sounds like you might need a little more hill training, look up CROCKNORTH ROAD and SHERE road heading upto Ranmore form Horsley, try them that'll give you a workout.
PS any clues on next weeks lottery numbers0 -
I am afraid that if I myself or anyone else is allowed to profit from my gift, it will evaporate even faster than my enthsusiasm for this ride given your advice - nearly bought a house on Ranmore Common a few years back and had trouble driving up there.
However, I can give you a tip - all the numbers are contained in the link you posted - though not necessarily in that order.

Hi Walkernomore,
I converted my bike from an R700 compact to a triple (not shimano) earlier this year. After much research (the shimano website is really useful) I found that the FC-R700 chainset uses the SM-FC6600 bottom bracket (ultegra spec) so you will need an ultegra triple chainset if you don't want to change the bottom bracket cups too (from what I remember the ultegra and 105 bb cups are different). They were selling the 6603 ultegra triple crankset on chainreaction cycles for £69.99 a few months back. You will also need a long cage rear deraillier. I had different brake levers (short reach girly ones) but I think the 105 brake/gear levers and double/triple compatible. Check out the shimano website because they have all the compatibilities listed, takes a while to figure it all out but all the info is there!
Hope this helps!
