I bought my SCR2 3 years ago... hence the name!!! I have had noproblems with it at all. It has now been relegated to my winter bike as I have recently bought a TCR C1 :D:D
I have used the SCR twice to ride London to Paris with no problems. It is very comfortable for long days in the saddle.
I really dont think you will de disappointed with it

Guys, Arent the SCR's classed as fast tourers/ Audax machines? I am coming back into cycling in my mid 50's and am looking at these models as possible Audax bikes?
Not sure I'd go as far as calling the SCR a tourer. Full-length mudguards will just fit (though I have toe overlap on my SCR 2 without them) and there are eyelets, but I'd suggest it's somewhere between a race and Audax bike in geometry.

'Try (or at least sit) before you buy' is the mantra. There is plenty of choice out there, you just need to find what feels right for you. Off the top of my not hugely knowledgeable head some bikes I'd consider include Ribble winter bike, Kona Jake or Specialized Tricross (both cyclocross models), Dawes Audax Sport, Ridgeback Horizon, Thorn, Surosa, Condor.... the potential list could be very long. Or if you want to go retro with steel and downtube shifters how about something based on a Surly Long Haul Trucker? I know someone who tours, does Audaxes, commutes and even does the shopping on his.

BTW since this thread started the SCR range has been revamped and is now called Defy. And the prices have increased, as have those of many other ranges :(
Aspire not to have more, but to be more.
