Hi I am just about to purchase my first mountain bike and would like to purchase secondhand on ebay to get more for my money. I have a budget of £300.
I want a bike I can grow into with experience and do not have to trade in six months time.
My bike will be used for old railway lines green lanes when dry(ish) and woodland tracks. I like the look of Kona Scrap and Specialised Hardrock hardtails. I would like a small aliuminium frame I can throw about like a BMX and is easy to get airborne. Top end speed is important so I need the largest wheels possible and guess I will not need the widest tyres? I intend to have the seat fully extended I am 5ft 5" what sized frame should I choose?
Are there any other models I should consider?
Would it be worth buying a second hand frame and building to my own spec :?:
Thanks for any advice I sure need it!

buying second hand is the smart moves in my opinion, i think more people should be brave enough to try it!!

i reckon for the most part you can get a bike for half price by getting a second hand one and of the ones i have bought from ebay (there have been a few!!) i have never bought a bad one.

i reckon the hardrock looks a good buy and you should be able to get a well equipped version for the money, will be pretty tough too.
