Hello all,

I'm looking for an entry level touring bike, or road bike. I've noticed a lot of people mentioning the Spesh Allez, but I've just seen a couple of others such as the GT R Series 4 2007 http://www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp?style=70244, or Dawes Giro 400 2008 Road Bike http://www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp?style=87545 and was wondering if was any good....

It was either one of these or the Ridgeback Voyage 2008 Touring Bike, http://www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp?style=86813.

What do you think?

One thing to consider if you're going to get a Budget Roadie is - do you want a Double, Compact or Triple? - if you're going to be doing some 10,000 ft 100 Sportives you might want a Compact or Triple - if you're happy doing Flat training rides you might be ok with a Double. Also - are you happy with an 8-speed or do you want a 9-speed as a minimuim? Wheels etc can always be upgraded so you should be alright on that one.

    Thanks for the reply...

The thing is my commute is quite hilly, and wasn't sure if a double would be able to handle it, so I was leaning towards a triple. From what I have seen, the costs between a double and triple aren't too different. And to be honest I don't really know the difference between an 8 speed and a 9 speed.
