Pumping problems

No not that sort!
When I use a specialized air pump and I attach hose to the valve, I can't always get air into the tyre.
I have to mess about with the valve and get it just right so that it let air in the valve.
Anyone else got this problem and offer a solution.
Not sure if the valve should be fully open etc, and or does the tyre need to be flat before you pump.
Maybe a strage question but its frustrating the hell out of me

Open the valve all the way, people recommend pressing the valve in for a split second although I have never had to. You dont have to deflate them to get more air in. Unless you already have them up to 160psi0

I always have to depress the valve and let some air out, in order to start inflating the tyre.
If I don't, then I have always had the same problem as Flyer.0 -
Press the valve needle in briefly to break the seal first before attaching the pump0
