Cycle club in Shefford, Beds

Hi all, I have been road cycling for the past 4 years and live in Shefford in Bedfordshire. I am very keen about cycling and I am looking to set up a club in the town.

I am 33 years old and have lived here for a number of years. I have dabbled with riding for other clubs but I have never been quite happy with them due to distance from home or their approach to club riding.

The idea is to cater for a wide range of abilities and organise club runs on Sunday mornings with the possibility of another organised ride in the evening during spring/summer.

Of course, all this is dependant on numbers and if there is enough interest in the local area to make it faesible.

All ages, sexes and abilities are more than welcome to get in touch and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Let me know via this website if you are interested, what sort of riding you do, how often and tell me a bit about yourself too and we can take things from there.

Regards,

Jonathan

Good luck with this. I'm reasonably local (the OH works in Shefford), I'm not a member of a club as I'm not able to get out at set times, ust go for rides when I can squeeze them in.

I'd possibly be interested for joining up for some less formal rides though.

Not wanting to put a dampener on the idea, but do you think you may struggle because of the other clubs locally? Beds RCC are only based a few miles away in Cardington, Icknield again are only based a few miles away in Silsoe, and Hitchin have an established club too.

Have you seen these guys before? An informal group who just meet for rides regularly, they do mainly off road stuff, but I can't see a reason as to why it couldn't be replicated for road riding.

Oh yeah, and there's that bunch from Luton

I thought Luton was a bit furtherafield than Hitchin so I didn't mention them, but having just looked on the CC Luton web page I can see that you meet in Barton, which again is only down the road!

    Hi There

We set up a club this year in Scotland for similar reasons, there weren't any other clubs in riding distance. We became a section of the National Clarion, It was the easiest way to do it and you get all the right affiliations to the BCF, CTT for £6 a year each. Instead of affiliating yourselves for a £200-odd

The Clarion have been really helpful to a group of riders who had never set up a club before. Plus you get to be part of the bigger National Clarion and enter all their events.

We took small steps in establishing a club and set goals like getting 20 members in the first year and planned becoming a club in our own right a year later in 2009. We've now got nearly 30 members and will run our first event on Boxing day.

Here is a link to the Clarion web site

And this is our thread (West Lothian Clarion) on bike radar...

    Good luck

Icknield Road Club - meet at Barton / Houghton Regis on Sundays only

    and not forgetting................... :D
CC Luton - meet at Streatley just south of Barton - Saturdays & Sundays

...............and we have the best looking kit of all of them!

Beds Road also have a Saturday lunch/afternoon race training session meet at the Cardington club house http://www.bedsroad.org/events/index.php?cmd=coming-soon

I think you'll find the new Beds kit gives the Luton boys a run for their money

I'd recommend something that will keep you warm :lol:http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/dayforecast.asp?zipcode=bedford&day=3

I won't be riding as I'll be standing in the middle of the road somewhere making sure none of the runners get run over at the Bedford Half marathon.

You could be right about the zips Bronzie!

Alli - if you decide to try the CC Luton ride this Sunday, just to let you know it's our Xmas Dinner clubrun - so we start a bit later (10am) and ride to the pub for 12pm - you're welcome to join the ride but I think all the places for the pub are now gone.

Alli - did you manage to get out with any of the clubs locally? Wasn't a bad morning for it really.
