Hi,

I'm in a bit of a dilemma as to what bike would be suitable for my commuting needs. I'm going to start riding instead of driving/taking the bug, but my route to work is a bit of a mixed bag and I am really struggling to decide what bike suits my needs. The route is around 70% Road/Path, 10% field, 20% stonechip track (although well compressed) , and 3 miles all in. I do have the option to miss out the field, but this will add another 1/2 mile to the journey.

I am looking to spend around £500 (based on the fact I will buy through C2W :)) and have been looking at bikes like Kona Dew Deluxe or FS, Carrera Fury (with different tyres) or GT Zum S1 (with more offroad tyres).

Can anybody help suggest what would be best - or any alternatives. The Fury seems to be well spec'd but I am worried it might be too MTB for my needs, the Kona Dew, was recommended by the guy at Halfords, and the GT Zum S1 looks good, however I can't find any information on it, and I am worried it may be too road orientated.

Thanks for your help!

I had the same decision to make this time last year.
I ended up with a Carrera Fury. I originally used it on towpath/bridleways on a 2.5 mile commute. Decided it was taking to long this way so put on some Schwalbe Road Cruisers 26x1.75 and just went on road. Took 8 mins instead of 17mins.
Now moved jobs and have a 7mile each way commute using Schwalbe Marathons Kevlar 26x1.5's. I have had no probs as I have the fork "locked out". I am very happy with mine!!!!

    Snap!

Thanks, didn't think I was going to get a response, but have made a similar decision to you - decided to go for the Fury and use some Continental Travel Contacts.

I have a Kona Dew. I use it for my round trip commute of 26 miles a day. Totally agree with Serge. A great bike that is light and very responsive.
