I am at the end of my tether with my Garmin edge 305. Using training center I continually get the error message “There was a problem sending the courses” whenever I try to upload courses to the unit

I am using mapmyride to generate the courses, saving files as .crs. then using the “send to Device” button in training center.

I have tried:
Turn the unit off and back on again
Turning my computer off and back on again
Updating the software on the computer (running V3.4.1)
Updating the software on the 305

I have tried using motion based to upload courses and it returns an error saying no connected device (it has no problem receiving courses)

Oh and TC has no problem receiving data either

Any solutions out there?

It was solved in my case by downloading the latest firmware from www.garmin.com and then doing a reset on the 305.

Reset the 305 by turning it off, power the unit back on, whilst pressing the "Mode" and "Reset" buttons at the same time. Let go of those two buttons, press the power button, and the unit will turn back on.

This worked for me, so you may as well give it a go!

    Link for latest 305 firmware:
    https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downl ... 60&pID=331

I see you have already downloaded the lastest firmware but not mentioned that you reset the 305 itself, maybe doing that will solve the problem??

Look at the Frank Kinlan website for all Garmin Edge 305, 605 and 705 queries.

On my 705 I have to save the mapsurce routes as a GPX file - may be the same for the 305 (?). THe frank kinlan site should help you out though.

i also had this problem, i'm afraid that wiping the unit history then doing a reset was the only solution. Pain the bum as its clearly as software integration issue rather than a falt with the unit.
  • The answer above is nearly right but the reset instructions arent quite right.

See my question and response to Garmin below, I followed these instructions and it worked.

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe. This error means that there is
corrupted course data on the watch. You will need to do a Master Reset
on the watch to clear it and then reload your workouts and courses to
    the watch.

Before proceeding please download all the information you need from the
device as all the data on it will be wiped.

    MASTER RESET
Switch the unit off. Press and hold the Mode button and then also press
    and the Power button.
The unit should switch on and have a message on the screen saying ?Do
you really wish to erase all user data?. Select YES and press enter.
The unit will reboot and ask you some questions.

If there is anything else I can help you with then please let me know.
Alternatively you can search for a solution here: http://www.garmin.com/support

The 705 can also take tcx files and the RouteToaster software recommends using tcx for the Garmin. That's what I tend to use to plot courses.
