How do I show a Garmin Edge 305 route on a map?

I've got a Garmin Edge 305. It displays a recorded route in the Training Centre console on a plain background as a dotted yellow loop. Does anyone know if it is possible to export to something like Google Earth or some other maps application, so I can actually see the route overlaid onto a map?

If so can someone explain how to do it please.

I see on Bikely.com you can create a route by importing a GPX file. Is the Garmin info stored as a GPX file or what?

Any guidance much appreciated.

    If it is what your looking for then create an account at motionbased > download the motion based agent > Connect your garmin to PC > Click on the import activities button on the motion based agent > One its uploaded to your inbox on motionbased you can name it etc and add it to your activities..

    It really is simple. any probs give us a shout.

    Try either of these alternatives to the Garmin software.

    http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/SportTracks/ for windows

    or
    http://www.montebellosoftware.com/ for mac

    both will allow you to display your rides on decent Google Earth type maps and possibly export your rides to Google Earth.

    Garmin decided to use a unique file for the Edge series that is incompatible with much of the mapping software unless you use a third party conversion.


    I use the software above, but for maping use
    http://www.clickroute.de as this allows use of the .crs and ..tcx files that Garmin use.

    Download and save, then open with Clickroute. Alternatively load up a .GPX file and downlad a .CRS

    Does the garmiin 305 have a propor display on it with roads and stuff?

    No.

    Displays route/course/track & waypoints on a 'blank' screen.

    So basically looks like just a track like you get in the corner of the screen on a racing game or something?
