Thought it was about time i posted something other than what shouild i buy or can i fit etc!!!! Just finished building up my first bike to replace my 07 GT avalanche 3. Frame is of uncertain origin (hopefully someone can identify from pics!) but is 7005 alu and much lighter than the GT. Used Xt drivetrain components right through with race face evovle bar/stem/seatpost and deore hydraulic brakes. Frame was pro painted in pearlascent silver with a blue flip and i think looks really trick( i know what a tart!). Rides superb and i've still got that "i built this" buzz everytime i ride. all opions gratefully recieved!
PS i know the spec's not huge but the whole thing has been built via ebay and online suppliers special offers etc and probably stands me at less than £500 with all new components bar wheels(robbed off GT!)

it does look like a standard catalog frame, nothing special."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

is the chainstay bridge any help in identifying? i got the frame originally from a mates brother who was well into mtb's in the early 2000's he seemed to rememberhis bro paying approx $600 for it back in the day. it came with lx shifters and powerflo chainset with vuletta rims and tioga bars/seat etc. It feels so much livelier than the GT but i guesss that could be down to component quality. :?:0

nope seen on many frames, might be from the kenisis fractory in Taiwain (they make for many "makes", low end to mid end...
like i said nothing special. but nothing nasty."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

oh boy - all those hours rubbing down/prepping for paint and now it looks like i should have stayed with the old triple triangle! just out of interest what are the differences between 6061 and 7005 alu?0

very little. both are well used at all levels of frame making. for in depth info try google."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

It looks like a nice clean ride and a good look, I had a Merlin frame that looked like that a while back, so shiny dirt feels bad sticking to it!.
Nice work.0 -
I take it you're not planning on using those tyres for serious offroad?"Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0

thanks for all replys. Don't worry Blackspur those are strictly road/commute tyres i have a set of conti mountain kings for the weekend! Got to say i've put approx 50 miles in this week and i'm loving that charge spoon saddle light+comfy for distance. Also pretty impressed with the tora - a bit heavy but is there a better fork for just over £80????first serious workout planned around thetford in a couple of weeks and then off to grizedale for a week in september.0
