I've got my first metric tonne this weekend It's in Hertfordshire and I think relatively flat, although I believe there is a 1:6 but shouldn't be to bad, The weather forecast if crap
It's being organised by Verulam CC and "Ride4areason".
Anyone else doing this or done it before?

When I read the thread title, the first thing that I thought was that you'd had an extremely serious brown trouser moment!!!
Seriously, these wee milestones are to be savoured - have a good day out whatever the weather.A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject - Churchill0 -
...never done that particular ride, but Hertfordshire can be a bit lumpy out that way...you will have a fantastic time...that distance is ideal for a first big one...have fun and don't bother about the weather...post when you have ridden it and let us know how it goes......all the way...'til the wheels fall off and burn...0

I did one two sundays ago around west and north yokshire. It took in Ilkley Moor and Otley Chevin. 102 km with something like 1500 feet of climbing in about four hours.

When you've done it once you'll want to do it again, but faster. Then there's the imperial ton, hillier routes etc....after that it gets silly; there's always another challenge around the corner. At least, that's how it's been for me. This morning I set the wheels in motion for, possibly, my most stupid cycling adventure yet.A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject - Churchill0 -
Did my first tonne about 10 days ago on a Sunday club run. Snored for England on the Sunday night (apparently). There is no secret ingredient...0

When I did my first metric century, I had my shoes too tight, my feet started killing after about 20miles, and I thought it was meant to be like that. I couldn't walk for days after. Other than that it would have been easy peasy. I learnt my lesson from then on and didn't fasten my shoes so tight.0

I'm in 2 minds whether to say or not, so I'll keep it to myself for the moment. Planning's in the very early stages and it might all go tits up like so many of my recent projects. At some point though I'll be enlisting the hivemind of the forum for assistance, so keep an eye out in 'Tour and Expedition'.
In part, it was your original post that led to my thoughts about 'milestones' and 'challenges' that's made my mind up to go for this though.

Well done - it's a great sense of achievement. I did a pair of imperial tons in a week whislt in Majorca this year - the first wasn't too bad but the 2nd was a killer...3 UCI Cat 2 climbs, 104 miles and 8900ft of ascent including Puig Major - god I slept that night!0
