XTR now or later?

Hi guys,
I'm thinking of upgrading my 08 EX Fuel 9 to full XTR drivetrain from the current XT stuff on there now? Do you think this is worth it?
The 08 XT stuff has only done about 100miles so i'll be selling in on eBay.
Is it worth waiting for 2009 XTR stuff to come out? Does XTR change much each year? I'm thinking the prices might be more expensive so its better to buy now rather than later?
Any advice?
Cheers
Matt

Do you race?
I've never felt the need to spend such a large amount on transmisison and have never used XTR personally, but the few people who have had new bikes with XTR rear mechs have said they are incredible. Even compared to XT (but is this the placebo effect?). Why don't you hire a bike with full XTR for a day and see what the difference feels like before you throw away a damn good biking holiday in the alps. I could never justify kitting my Intense with XTR, XT is where its at.0 -
Personally i'd stick with the XT stuff untill parts start to wear out, then upgrade to XTR bit by bit.
Components can be bought so cheap these days that you'll probably get next to nothing for your XT stuff anyway.0 -
Agreed with the above comments.
The XTR kits looks great and is nice but I think over the XT in most cases you're only gaining weight savings, shaving off as much as possible.... just look at the XTR shifters compared to the XT or even LX.
I'm making the change from LX to XT as that seems logical to me and have found the parts to be plentiful and relatively inexpensive new.
I'd stick with the XT and see what happens in a few months. Get some more miles on them and don't worry about the resale value.0 -
I'd add weight to the comments above, XTR really is aimed at the weight concious racer, not sure the durability is always as good as the XT either. As for rear mechs, I have an XTR on my Stumpy and an XT shadow on my hardtail and to be honest I can't tell the difference when it comes to shifting. However the Stumpy does have LX levers and the hardtail has XT, now there's and upgrade I am going to make (LX to XT shifters). It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -

XTR only changes every 4 years or so and your current XTR is 2007 vintage. It's not worth the extra money in objective terms unless the rest of your bike is as light as possible and you race. So the only reason to spend the extra is because you want to, and only you can wrestle that decision which is why I guess your looking for someone to tell you it's OK.

Personally I think you're an idiot for changing perfectly functioning parts, when the cost of all aspects of living is rocketing.0

I don`t think you`re an idiot.I just want your soon to be surplus XT mech and shifters.
