Yes, those lovely Germans have fallen out of love with Jan and Eric. My old Astra Satellite System used to have the Tour of Romandy, Tour de Suisse and Frankfurt and Henniger Turn etc but now has none of it. DSF, Sat1 and all the other German Channels have not been playing ball. Signs of the times I guess.

Ah, but at least the Tour is back on ZDF. They pulled it half way through last year, as part of some weird protest against doping, otherwise known as "how to destroy German pro cycling in a year".

Unless the Germans are winning they have no interest in promoting a sport!
After their defeat in the Euro Champs. they probably will reduce coverage of football internationals in the coming season.
They're international sulkers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The television equivalent of rolling on the ground after a fair tackle?

That could be any country. England is unusual in that it has TV coverage of sports we do badly at, like football ;) I don't think the flap in Germany was related to a German not winning the tour. Rather there was some hard core Scheinheilig action going on!

I think their sulking is a direct response to Zabel admission, Sinki, Klodan (Astana trouble), Jaksche etc etc trouble; let alone Master Ullrich's troubles. Ullrich was supposed to have been German Sports Personality when Mr M.Schumacher won his record 7th World Championship. What's a Motor Racing Driver got to do to win! Ullrich and Eric were Germany's darlings for a few years, a bit like our Mr Beckham I guess. I can understand the sulking. I'm feeling deprived of missing the above mentioned races.

I think if you check back, it was Paris-based Eurosport which used to show the Tour of Romandie and the Tour de Suisse, not German TV.
And if you didn't see the Frankfurt Henninger Turm race this year, you need to check your settings, because the first half was shown on one German channel and the second half on another German channel, using the same commentators throughout.

(PS. In case you don't know already, you may have missed the last-ever Frankfurt Henninger Turm race; it's future is undecided because sponsor brewery Henninger are pulling out)

The UK is worse; they promote (in the sense meant here, i.e. televise) relatively few sports compared to some other countries, giving little coverage to sports in which the British do well if they are of minority interest, and practically none to less common sports in which the British try but finish midfield - not much of way to promote a greater and more diversified interest in sports!
