Truvativ Firex crankset - Is it meant to have a hole?

I was just checking my bike to determine where a creak is coming from as I pedal. For the first time I noticed that there is no plug on the chain ring side of the bottom bracket (Truvativ Firex crankset). Is this normal or has a bit dropped off my bike and I haven't noticed? The bike is a Carrera Zelos and the picture on the Halford's website isn't clear enough to confirm if there should be a plug or not.

Finally does it matter being an 'external' bearing type of BB?

Thanks

that is correct, it is a 2 piece design. there is a "hole"

    Cheers Nicklouse,

I'm glad to hear that. Just have to find the source of the creak now. Think I'll try changing my pedals first...
