Maybe they can use it find their way to the front of the bunch next Spring.

I hope they don't put one on Tommy D's bike.

    He doesn't need any distractions.

Vaughters has been an advocate of 24-hour monitoring of riders locations. Now he's got the toys to do it.

(Perhaps they should send one to Michael Rasmussen)

  • I doubt Garmin are wellying out the amounts that slipstream received in previous incarnations.

This is really good news all round. Hopefully it'll help Vaughters kick on and turn this team into a proper good un.

Or at least show the world just how far you can get clean...

Yep - it will be up on the new displays in front of them - "Distance 132 km, Total Altitude 2500m, Average Speed 36 km/h"

It has to be a positive sign that sponsers are coming into the sport and investing enough money to take over as title sponsers of teams. All we need now are a couple more for Quickstep (if they don't renew) and Gerolsteiner.

Most interesting comment by the Garmin rep was that they work closely with Allen Lim, since he works for Powertap's company CycleOps. Right now the two companies' products are not exactly direct competitors but they kind of are. My guess is Garmin (with ANT) want to replace the computer part of CycleOps' product.
Part of that preparation involves Garmin working closing with PowerTap innovators Saris to wirelessly link PowerTap hubs with Garmin’s Edge 705 GPS units. Lim, who is also a longtime Saris consultant, has been working closely with engineers from both companies to facilitate a seamless integration.

“In theory that ends up being the ultimate tech geek device,” Vaughters said. “Allen is off the hook, ‘You can graph temperature gradient differences when we climb the cols.’ If you saw these five-page emails that Allen and the Garmin engineers are shooting back and forth … I’m always carbon copied, but I get past the first three sentences and I’m lost.”

It's good to see the sponsors coming back to cycling!
