Hayes Sole Brakes no longer lining up with the rotor

Hi

I have Hayes Sole Hydraulic Disk Brakes (crap I know, I will be upgrading but not for a few months) on my GT. They used to run fine but recently the front brake has been rubbing. I was out for a ride on Saturday and since the wheel is barely turning due to the rubbing.

I adjusted the pads to try and clear this and it is fine (well not as bad) for a bit and then catches again.

it is rubbing on the fork side brake pad, which is now as far back as it can go.

Is it possible that the whole rotor is warped out? What else could possibly cause this change?

Thanks

i have the missfortune of having hays so1e on my rockymountain hardtail...

i hate them they are ultra pants.

is your rota bent spin the wheel and look at the rota to see if its straight if not you can bend them back with an adjustable spanner,..

if your rota aint bent then just realign the caliper back up by undoing the bolts and squeezing the brake lever a few times then tighten back up...

have you squeezed the brake while the wheel was of pushing the pistons out if so the use a knife or a flat head screwdriver to gentally push the piston back in...

Ultra pants is being nice. What would you pick (or anyone else) to replace them? I think that the Stroker Trails look and sound amazing and the price at Merlin is fantastic.

Back to the problem. The rotor was bent but only slightly in one place. I sorted this with the adjustable spanner Re: link in the tech pages sticky.

The main problem I had was that the rotor was not centred in the caliper and was rubbing against the fork side casing (not pad) of the caliper. Don't ask me what I did but with tightening the bracket bolts (barely any travel) and taking out the pads to look at and then putting them back in and attaching the wheel it fixed it. And before anyone says it, it wasn't the wheel not being on...I tried that several times

    Thanks for you help Delcol!

Next step...destroy all Sole brake sets!!!!

    Hi Nick

I think I inadvertantly did that. I rode to work this morning and it seems fine.

    Thanks for the help
