Campag retaining clip

The clip is there to aid assembly as it secures the bearing and hence crank spider in position - it doesn't actually provide any function when the cranks are in use, except it would stop your crank falling off should the centre bolt come undone!Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I've got a sheet which I downloaded from another site a while ago. One of the technical people , Simone Roncali from Campag was giving information on diagnosing noises from ultra torque crank assemblies.
He refers to the clip as follows:' Make sure the semi-circular clip is properly in place. It prevents lateral play of the crankset assembly'.
This suggests that it is important!
However I know several people who have fitted Ultra Torque and made the same assumption
as Monty Dog, and removed it during assembly. AFAIK they have had no problems resulting from this. On a personal level, I'd still rather it was there just in case!0 -
Thanks guys.
No need to panic, then.
Which is good, as I've no idea where I could find a replacement.0 -
