08 = £499

is the 08 much better?

also would appreciate any alternatives to that bike, i went to my local bike shop and thats what the guy recommended for the money. £400/£500/$1000

    Test them out if you can. As I have just said in a couple of other posts, on paper I think they are poor - 8spd, cable discs and a SR fork for 500 quid? Last years seems a better buy at 375, but has an even worse fork - but with the money saved could get a Tora.

    imo GT avalanche 1.0 is great spec for the money and can be got for £450. Although as said in the thread, folks love the rockhopper.

    I have the '07 and the frame is lovely, really reponsive good ride.

    BUT

    The forks are horrific, if poss try and get them changed when you buy the bike. I put a set of Pikes on mine and it made such a difference.

    The brakes are cable disks but as cables go they are pretty good (until you get gt85 on the rotors like I did oops!) best i've ridden at least. Apart from that the only let down is that its 8 speed, so in future might cost a bit to upgrade.
