Campag left Ergopower shifter and front mech: what is QS
From the Campag tec doc it appears that a QS Ergopower shifter is a shifter that moves more cable per paddle movement:
- QS Ergopower controls with non-QS derailleurs could require higher force to effect shifting.
- Non-QS Ergopower controls with QS derailleurs will require at least two lever movements to effect shifting.
So just what does a QS shifter-and-mech give you?

QS will give you a lighter shifting action. Between my Record and Centaur equipped bikes the difference is quite marked.
However the downside is that you lose the multi-shift functionality of the Record and Chorus shifters (i.e. Changing down the block in huge leaps instead of one cog at a time).0 -

QS only refers to the front mech geometry that gives a lighter action....it's the Escape mechanism of current Centaur-Xenon Ergos that has the limited number of cogs shifted in one downward motion.I'd rather walk than use Shimano0 -

= higherforce must mean slower shifting.
Non-QS Ergopower controls with QS derailleurs will require at least two lever movements to effect shifting.
= i thought that was how campag was meant to work, unlike shimano which is one click movement.0 -

Campag moves with one movement that contains several clicks, those clicks allow front mech trimming on either side once the chain is engaged on the new ring....for argument's sake lets say 3 clicks in one movement...but with Non QS Ergos and QS front mech the mech may need, say, 5 clicks of movent as non QS Ergos don't move as much cable as a QS one would...so you would need two movements.I'd rather walk than use Shimano0 -

Sorry, you're right. Must put brain into gear before posting :oops:0 -
The reason for my stream of Campag questions: I'm trying to get my head around my options for a build-up that includes a 2006 30/40/50 Chorus Triple.
I can source 2006 (i.e. non-QS) front mech and shifters. However I'm interested to know what my options are. I want to know if QS is a real improvement and, if it is, how to apply QS kit to a 2006 triple.
I've noted that Campag have stopped doing triple versions of their, er, normal groupsets, so no 2008 triple for Record, Chorus, Centaur, etc. Instead you have partial groupsets for triple kit in 2008: Comp, Race and Match.
Taking Comp or Race as examples: these mini-groupset consist of no more than:
- front mech
- rear mech
- crank
- BB (actually, the BBs are borrowed from Centaur and Veloce)

So what 2008 shifter and front mech is compatible with 2008 Comp or Race (or any Campag triple, for that matter, which is what I'm really driving at)?0 -
All shifters are compatible....this isn't Shimano we are talking about!!
You don't say which 2006 Ergos you can get but I'd rather have 2006 style front non indexing without QS than the indexed system (limited trim on middle ring only) introduced to Centaur and lower in 2007with QS.
The definitive triple set up would be....your Chorus triple crank, 2007-8 Chorus or Record Ergos and a 2006 Chorus Triple Flat Bar specific front mech....flat bar being QS the year before it was renamed QS. You would then have QS and a front mech you can feather to your heart's content.I'd rather walk than use Shimano0 -
Thanks Rob. That's a great help - you've hit the nail on the head.

Agreed. I don't want a fully-indexed system. I like the in-flight trimming of the front mech. I also like to be able to change multiple gears in either direction.

Now you're talking. :-) Where find that 2006 Chorus Triple Flat Bar front mech...?0 -

Well that's gonna be your problem!! Bear in mind you'd only need that for near ultimate blingness in triple front mechs....the Comp triple probably works just as well and is easier to find.I'd rather walk than use Shimano0 -

Would a 2006 Centaur Flat Bar Triple front mech do the job?0 -

It would but I expect it is the same as the Comp Triple....not that there's anything wrong with that. What I meant by definitive was the highest spec and best features possible.I'd rather walk than use Shimano0 -

Oh, I hear you alright. :-D
Thanks very much again mate, I think this one is closed now.0
