What nonsense! We'll have the GP Sochi* and Tour of China to look forward to for next year!

    *look it up.

And half the PT licences are up for renewal....

The Velonews article about this is interesting because the ToC guys say the PT isn't attractive because they like the domestic teams to take part.

ASO are also rumoured to be taking over D-L and RvV.

I think this is a great move for both - AEG get the marketing expertise of the best in the business and ASO maintain their toehold in the lucrative US market.

How long before pay-per-view for live coverage of the big events?

It's already here, in some cases. You won't find The Tour of Switzerland anywhere for free.
Stage 2 had a free feed, stage 3 didn't. Same on tv.
I'm watching it from the Balkans tv coverage, in German, but only because I know a man.....

Hope the ASO don't slap a ban on Astana for California. What would Levi win, then?

Well, I think ASO are getting a lot more than that out of being associated with AEG. They're an enormous group with some huge brands.

Alternatively, ASO mop-up much of the top-tier cycling calendar (they appear to be very busy with acquisition and housekeeping this year) and then let AEG take a significant stake in the company.

oh, I agree iain. I thought it was funny this morning when the manager of Royal Ascot said they were introducing an armband for the leading jockey 'sort of a Tour de France yellow jersey idea' he said.

hehe - Well, it's certainly one of the most recognisable symbols in sport.

Interesting seeing the footprint of AEG.

The deal should enable us punters in the UK to see the ToC without resorting to t'internet. And I bet more teams will want to go.

Didn't some minority owner of ASO -- Groupe Lagardère -- buy a majority interest in the Tour of Germany recently?
