I'm thinking of buying a carbon frame and I like the look of the Pedalforce frames.
However, I was also looking at the Ribble web site and noticed the Ribble Scuro HCR Carbon Road Frame.

The web site says the frame is 870g which seems ridiculously light.
I bought Ribble frame a few years ago which was advertised as 1005g for an average frame size. My frame is a 56cm, which is pretty average, and I weighed it the other day after stripping it down and found that it was 1350g.

I'm just wondering if Ribble are being a bit creative with their advertised frame weights. Does anyone own a Ribble Scuro HCR Carbon Road Frame and do they know how much they actually weigh?

thanks

I have the Condor version of the frame and it weighs 960g but it is painted in Rapha Condor team colours so if you make an allowance for the paint Ribble may not be that far out.I do realise the Ribble is laquered but I am sure mine is painted on top of the laquer(Bern?)

    Great frame by the way.

    HI Andy,

So, is the Condor the same frame as the Ribble?
    I didn't know that.

last years one was, now they are hand built from a tubeset (rather than monocoque)

Medium Scuro frame is 957 grammes, large is 999.

That's clearcoated/lacquered carbon - no decals, including cable adjusters, bottom bracket cable guide and rear hangar.

The 870 figure is a direct quote from Dedacciai's marketing, which must be from a fully stripped, XS frame - that is, tubeset only with none of the adornments necessary to make the thing rideable.

Nice looking frames (without the Ribble decals anyway - which are lacquered over, so not easy to remove)), light and stiff but oddly sized (long headtubes and short top tubes, relative to the seat tube lengths)

    thanks guys.

Is there an easy way to take off the laquered decals?

I hate decals in general, not just Ribble ones :)

I've recently bought a scuro, havent stripped and weighed it but it is light and fast. I would imagine the 870g is for a fully stripped frame, no hangers, cable stops, bottle bosses, bb inserts to reach a headline figure.

Still its a great bike, really quick. You can buy the frames without decals, but pay more for them

How do you buy it without decals?
Do you just have to ask Ribble not to put decals on?

    thanks

They aren't Ribble Frames, Ribble just buy them and badge them up. I bought my undecaled Nero Corsa from Chain Reaction, but Ribble and Kona buy them as well from Dedacciai and sticker/paint to make them look like their own.

You can buy them without decals from sumobikes.co.uk (or by contacting a guy named Rodders on forum at veloriders.co.uk.)

You can take the decals off by using a scalpel or craft knife to catch an edge and then peeling the rest of the sticker off but it leaves a noticeable edge where the decal has been - can be fixed by rubbing down very lightly with very, very fine wet and dry and then applying a finishing coat of laquer from an aerosol can (available from Halfords or car accessory places) over the affected area.

Messy when you get it wrong though.....

Haven't weighed mine - it is very light but you have to treat any maker's figures with some scepticism.

The measurements suit me pretty well as the beefy, and long, head tube means I need no extension rings.

The top tube may look short but the c-to-c measurement on mine is 55cms, which is exactly the same as my Airborne Zepp. The fat head tube and slightly aero seat tube prob just make it look a little odd, if one is used to seeing more 'exposed' top tube, as it were.
