Frame swap

Hi folks.

I've got the chance to buy a lovely second hand (but in perfect condition) Look 585 carbon frame to replace my current alu one for very reasonable money. If I go for it - which looks likely - the plan is to swap over all my existing componentry (Ultegra and Aksiums) onto the new frame.

Has anyone done this themselves? I plan to take photos of everything on the old bike so I can cross reference, have a copy of Zinn and am I'm pretty confident(ish) about everything but the gears. But are there any particular 'poo traps' I need to look out or think about for before I start?

Cheers.

not really - justtake your time and do it properly - ask questions on here if there are parts you are unclear about.

expect to replace cables and stuff - it won't be worth the hassle of swapping cables across

Just doing the same myself - Fausto Coppi alu to Look 555.

As well as cables, I've also had to replace seatpost (different diameter) & bottom bracket (English vs Italian thread), but I'd have replaced the BB anyway.

Take it slowly, be methodical and you should be OK.

You may need longer allen key brake bolts on the carbon frame ? I know I did.

No need for the pics really - take on bit off the old bike and bung it on the new bike. Its pretty easy.
  • Encouraging stuff! Thanks all. I'll let you know how I get on...
