Avid Juicys playing up!

I recently got some Juicy Carbons and after a load of messing around getting them set up and bedded in (they're impressively powerful!) I've noticed another problem.

If I give them a bit of stick on a downhill section the bite point shifts from being very short and firm to being almost next to the handlbar, almost rendering the brake useless. The bite point then stays there until I wind the bitepoint adjuster all the way 'in' and then all the way back 'out' again.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on there? Could it be the heat is causing problems or maybe one of the internal seals? So far these brakes have been a real PITA!!

you could have boiled the fluid?! when this happens, the lever travel increases. a lot. not sure about the bite point adjuster bit though!!

so you say the bite point moves. So the lever FEEL is just the same?

IE. still firm but more movement?

or have the levers gone mushy?

The lever feel is not as firm after the bite point has moved, as you say, they feel slightly mushy. It just seems wierd that as soon as you dial out the bite point adjuster and then dial it back in they return to normal.

Sounds familiar to what happens with my Juicy 5's.

Over rough stuff the lever travel would increase, I was told at the LBS that Juicy's come under-filled with fluid for some stupid reason. And to back this up since having the rear brake hose shortened (and re-bled) the rear brake is fine, leaving only the front feeling occasionally pap.

After a few pumps the lever feels fine again.

there are so many nux and crannys in the juicy system a bubble can be pushed around and cock up your brakes then move back into hiding when you;ve altered your adjusters, then pop out again when it gets knocked. I reckon you just need to give a well intense bleed. Sam
