Choice Down To 3
Ok, so i am after a new bike. The ever increasing price of petrol is giving me the motivation to bike to work everyday and i am planning to continue this year round.
So looks like the Roubaix Elite is being demoted to a commuter, winter, turbo and mucky weather bike and a new toy can replace it for all other riding and future sportives and charity rides that i want to get into.
After scouring the LBS's in town and browsing the net I have got 3 possibilities. They are all similarly priced so that's not a factor that will come into the decision.
1..Cervelo RS..wish there was a local dealer so i could take a closer look but all reviews seem good. I would like something a bit different and you rarely see a Cervelo around here.
2..Pinarello FP5..sexy looking well equipped bike, similarly priced Cervelo would not be as highly specced.
3..Scott Addict R4..maybe a bit to 'racey' for me but fact it ways about as much as an empty crisp packet appeals to me.
Anyone own any of the above or got any opinions? I know it's down to me at the end of the day which i choose but any advice is good advice when helping to make a decision.

nice to see you have ditched the car mate - I sold mine 6 months ago and have not looked back since.
If I were you I would go for the Cervello. then again if I was spending that much dosh on a frameset I would probably get the R3 SL0 -
Thanks Doobz. Not completely ditching the car just seriously cutting down on usage, don't get much more than 20mpg so it's getting expensive but i love it so for now i will keep it.
The R3 SL frameset is more expensive than the complete bikes i am looking at so will give that one a miss but cheers anyway!
I do like the appeal of the Cervelo , the budget i am looking at would get me a RS built with 105 or Centaur but the Pinarello is built with DuraAce so thats an advantage.0 -
ahh cool2 - if it has dura ace I would go for that as you will probably want to upgrade in the future anyway - A few of the dudes I ride with ride pinarello's and they only ever have good things to say about them.0

i'd go for the cervelo
I have an S-works Roubaix so same geometry as your elite - the RS is very similar in it's fit and feel - very very slightly lower at the front, but not much - it's a lovely frame as you'd expect and well priced at the £1600 mark.
of course - you could keep your elite as a good bike and get a cheap hack commuter or even a fixed gear (I use a langster as my commuter when I use the bike)
but where's the fun in that!!
cervelo gets my vote anyway.0 -
Test rode an R3 about a month ago and very nice it was too. Don't know about the other two.0

I'd have to agree as well, go for the Cervelo. I visited the bike show in London last year and was instantly smitten with both the R3 and the Soloist Carbon.
I personally think the R3 is good enough, the slightly lighter frame of the R3 SL doesn't justify the extra expense unless your riding competitively that is and must have the best. You probably wouldn't notice the difference on the road. Although the kudos and the black colour for the SL just looks fab. Save the extra cash on the R3 and invest it in the best spec you can.
I only read positive things about the frames they produce and the owners absolutely love them.
Although I've not ridden any of them a Cervelo is on my list as my next bike to replace my Trek 5500, as to which one I'm not sure. :?2004 Trek 5500 OCLV
2014 Cervelo R3 Black/Blue
2018 Cervelo R3 Disc Navy/Red
2018 Trek Domane SL 5 Disc Grey
2020 Trek Domane SL 5 Disc Matte Navy0 -
I've got an RS and can only say good things about it, I haven't ridden any of the other bikes on your list as when I went to look at frames at my LBS (they had my size in stock..) and they guy pulled the frame out of the box it was love at first sight. Mine's specced with Carbon Centaur, Krysium SL's and i went a bit nuts and specced a full carbon cockpit. The acceleration is fantastic and the way it corners is great.
My advise would be to go for the Cervelo. If i get snobby about it (believe me I do!) it would be my choice as Evans don't sell them! One reason i dismissed a DeRosa (as well as the problems i'd seen with customer service on this forum) was they've started stocking them..
That's just my opinion though, i'm sure we'll all be buying from Evans sooner or later..0 -
Well I also test rode a De Rosa Idol (with Record and fulcrum zero's) on the same day as the Cervelo (with Dura Ace and DT Mon Chaparels) and they are totally different bikes, despite both being in carbon.
The Cervelo is a racer's bike no doubt, it begs you to get off your seat and go for it all the time, smoothing any bad road surfaces along the way, whereas the Idol is much more 'dampened', protecting the rider from really bad surfaces but still quite fast really, but I got the feeling that you don't have to try quite as hard on the De Rosa. Very stylish too.
Would I buy one or the other, no. Neither actually. There are just so many other bikes out there, so much damn choice in carbon especially.0
