Chain for Shimano 9-speed setup?
Any particular recommendations for a 9 speed Tiagra chainset?
I had a chart somewhere that stated the compatability of chains and groupsets but can I hell find it.

Shimano suggest HG53 specifically for Tiagra 9 speed, just got one myself from chain reaction cycles, ribble have them too.The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns

Shimano would suggest one of those wouldn't they, better to get KMC/Wippermann/SRAM than a Shimano Chain.0 -
quick question, are the chains the same width for MTB and road chains, and do they ever stick 9spd chains onto 8spd cassettes, i only ask because I tried to put an 8spd SRAM powerlink into an 8spd road bike chain, and it didn't fit.
Ideas?0 -
in the shimano and sram world a 9spd chain is a 9spd chain as are the cassettes it does not matter if it is Road or MTB they are the same. 8spd is not the same width as 9spd."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

It was an 8spd cassette, so i tried to stick in an 8spd master link, it wouldn't close fully, just a little bit.0

Is it inadvisable to use a cassette that has even been touched by anything but the new chain?
While the current cassette on my Aksiums has done some hard winter miles, I do have a 9 speed Ultegra cassette I stripped from my DT wheels when they were converted to Campag. That cassette has only done about 300-400 miles in good weather. Best to buy a new one?0 -

there are two camps on this.
personally i would use it, with a new chain (or the one you used with it)."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
