Front end skid out

I was at Kirroughtree on Friday and did the black route. It was great! Much preffered it to the Glentress black.
However at one point on the route I was going quite fast round a turn to the right when my front wheel lost traction and I ended up sliding along the ground and now have a few nice grazes. The surface was dry and and a bit gritty/gravelly. Why could this be? Did I just put a bit much pressure on the front brake or is it something to do with my tyre pressure being too high? ( about 40psi and I weigh 55kg)

you should never use your front brake once your turning it causes you, as you know, to skid out lol0
