I am having problems with my Road Bike. I am finding it very difficult to reach the drops on the handlebars. It becomes more uncomfortable the longer I ride. Is this something I will get use to? I do have a bit of a beer belly and wonder if this is part of the problem?Someone has suggested that I need a different seat post to bring me further forward on the bike. and closer to the handlebars. Is this a good idea or perhaps should I be looking for a bike which fits me better?

Well, a different post will probably place you further forward in relation to the cranks: this may not help hips and knees. Why not first try bringing the bars nearer and upwards in a sort of arc towards you?

Road bikes are a bit funny to begin with - the position is a bit stretched ou.

You can do lots to tweak the bike - but it could be that you need time to adapt. Did you get measured for the bike at a shop at all ?

without knowing the setup of your bike...

you could try flipping the stem over.
this will bring the bars just slightly closer to you and it will make them a bit higher. this can make a big difference in comfort.

wrt to your saddle, you may be able to get some adjustment by sliding the saddle forward a tad on the rails.

you will find that making small changes can make a big difference on bike setup and feel.

    good luck
