I've got a friend who's going to Northumbria Uni in August and he was wondering about cycling clubs in the area.

You should also check out the Tyneside Vagabonds. They host fortnightly time trials throughout the summer, have weekly Sunday rides and Saturday easy rides for the less fit. Plus they are very friendly.
