Rusty brakes

A couple of months ago I decided it was time to do the adult thing and buy a house. Unfortunately being poor this first involved moving to my parents' house to save money.
Naturally in my old house my bikes lived in the sitting room (where else do bikes go!?) however my parents insist I now store my bikes in the garage. This has resulted in my brakes going rusty.
Has anyone got any advice how to clean the rust off? A few of the screws also have a bit of rust on them as well.

(ps. yes i am saving money by living at my parents, but no the solution is not to just buy a new bike)
