one of the threaded cones on my front Shimano WHR 550 wheel hub is pitted. Are parts for these wheels available ? if so where from.

My local bike shop (Heales, Highams Park) ordered a spare axle from their Shimano catalog so try your local shop.

Do you find that the rear/ freewheel is really noisey and sounds rough, evenwhen supposedly running ok.

Mine sounds and feels OK. That could be because I've been ridding all day with a mate who has Campag Mirage,

Perhaps because I am used to the click, click of a Mavic freewheel.

I would be interested to know, when you spin the rear wheel what sound do you get? is a low rumble of the bearings turning.

I am not to worried as when i am actually pedalling the rear is silent?

I have found that the cone on the freewheel side needs checking over the winter as the grease packed around the bearing can get flushed out when its repeatedly wet and your washing/ degreasing regulalry.

Shimano cones are standard spares and can be bought from any shop which deals with Shimano (that's pretty much all of them).
