I'm about to renovate my Carrera Virtuoso, and make it into a proper commuter. I've currently got 2200s STIs which I don't like too much and as I'm on a budget I'll put on 8spd dt shifters that I can get for around £20.

The problem is that I don't have a braze ons for downtube shifters, are there any decent bodges I can do?

I considered flat bars, but I don't really get on with them. And bar ends look a bit ghey on drops - I did consider TT bars, but I think it's a bit over the top for a commuter/light tourer.

Check the frame first, though - usually the band-on mounts only fit old-school round down tubes. May have to be the bar-end option for oversized and/or profiled tubes.
