Should be a bit hilly.

But during the Giro? Are they hoping Tour hopefuls will head out there for a nice 5 days event?

So during the Giro, there will be Catalunya and that Russian race as ProTour events? And they think that will somehow diminish the importance of the Giro? Who do the UCI think they're kidding? Apart from themselves, of course.

Plus, ASO buys a big stake in the Vuelta, and all of a sudden the UCI studies moving the Worlds back before the Spanish GT. Oh so incredibly subtle... Just like watching two 8 year-olds fight over a Tonka truck.

Keep up! - the Vuelta is supposedly being moved back to April, where it was, thus allowing the Worlds go to their tradional slot.

I'd heard someone say that but dismissed it. The mess keeps getting messier.

Hmmm, maybe a the UCI should attempt to set up a tour of America during July, that's a pretty quiet month for cycling.

Whilst I agree that its a good idea to spread the sport around the globe, there has been no way found of making a brand new race equal in status to a Grand Tour/Monument Classic.

Most new races a seen as a nice training session at best.

The Monte Pashe Eroica looks like it might gain that status very quickly

Not as new a race as some 'new' races, but the Tour of Germany's stock seems to have risen on the quiet over the last few seasons - I guess a country of that size deserves a high-profile national tour sooner or later.

All it needs is a race with some mega prizemoney in the right market. Have a Tour in America with double the prizemoney of the Tour de France and everyone will be there. Look at what the IPL has done in cricket. Every cricketer wants some of the cash on offer. I firmly believe this is what the ASO is scared of, as they know globalisation will threaten the importance of their events, maybe even Le Tour.

The thing that worries me about some of the races the UCI is bringing in is the crowds. Nothing screams pointless event more than races where there are only two fans at the side of the road.

How are you going to get that money?
Who is going to support in within America...even with some really good American cyclists, most of the public don't really seem to care about cycling now Lance has retired
Who is going to sponsor teams racing in a race which no one watches?

Cricket was already very popular in India, and the format of Twenty20 appeals to many, whereas road racing does not.
